Applying Adobe Lightroom CC’s Dehazing Tool to Astrophotography

A recent article on Petapixel on Adobe Lightroom CC (the upgrade from the regular Adobe Lightroom) has my interest piqued. LR now comes with a dehazing tool that reportedly does great stuff to photos that have haze in them. A lesser-known application is the automation of contrast and exposure adjustment to astrophotographs. I decided to revisit one of my older photographs of the Milky Way from Yosemite and try it out. On Nikon’s Mode 3

The so-called Mode 3 is an undocumented Nikon DSLR feature which I came across on the internet when looking for noise reduction techniques in astrophotography. There’s some information on it here but nothing specific to the D700. It’s possible that Mode 3 is irrelevant for later Nikon DSLRs.
